Every Teen in Action (ETIA) Is One Passionate and Dedicated High School Student’s Incredible Program To Create Partnerships With the Healthcare Field
Jeongmi Ahn has been passionate about healthcare and working to make it a better place for both those who rely on it for their medical needs and the students willing to experience and make a change in the healthcare field. As a high school student, opportunities to volunteer at hospitals, nursing homes, and other organizations were a huge deal for her. She wanted to do what she could to learn about healthcare and bring hope and happiness back to these environments that are often lonely and stressful.
Unfortunately, when Covid hit, she found there were fewer and fewer chances for her to pursue what she loved. Instead of letting it keep her down, she decided to do something about it. In 2021 she began planning a program that would connect students like herself with healthcare organizations that needed volunteers. This program would help give students insight into the field they wanted to work in one day while bringing joy and a little bit of happiness to the people who rely on the healthcare field for their medical needs.
The Creation of Every Teen In Action (ETIA)
In 2022, Jeongmi’s idea became a reality as she launched her organization, Every Teen In Action. With the help of her brother, Keunyoung Ahn, she continues to lead this program while still achieving stellar grades in high school.
Every Teen In Action (ETIA) connects volunteers to prominent organizations like NYU Langone, NYCRUNS, and local nursing homes to raise awareness for patients, send letters, create video performances, and even hold storytelling events for young children.
Jeongmi and Keunyoung’s goal is to make volunteering fun for the students by encouraging them to incorporate things they love doing, like reading, playing music, drawing, or even dancing.
Most recently, Every Teen In Action (ETIA) sent students to NYCRUNS Ice Cream Social 5k and 10k on August 5th in Governors Island. They were able to donate $50 to Broadway Cares/ Equity Fight AIDS for their efforts.
Every Teen In Action (ETIA) also recently received $500 from GripeTape as a grant to continue expanding and growing Every Teen In Action (ETIA). This money was put towards children’s books and toys as well as advertisements to reach out to new volunteers and fundraising donations to keep doing the wonderful work this program does each and every day.
“I don’t see volunteering as ‘work.’ Instead, I think of it as a gift because I also feel happy and special for helping people and having the opportunity to bring positive changes to the world,” Jeongmi says.
Every Teen In Action (ETIA) continues to try to expand with the goal of getting volunteers from every single state while partnering with as many organizations, hospitals, and nursing homes as they can.
