Marnie & Michael Announce Addition to Their Line Supporting Mental Health Initiatives

July 30, 2021 – Social enterprise Marnie & Michael are delighted to announce the addition of backpacks to their line of hand-crafted fine leather goods. These stylish bags are perfect for students, commuters and weekend-travellers as well as day to day use around town.

Made in Canada, these spacious backpacks feature an unlined main compartment with a  handy key clip inside, a 12-inch long zipped side-entry to main compartment, front and back outside pockets, comfortable, 2-inch wide webbed-cotton adjustable straps and a convenient handle for easy pick up. Each one is handmade with durable 4.5 ounce-thick oil-tanned leather with a pronounced grain, available in six timeless jewel toned colours.

“During the lockdowns over the past year, we took advantage of this time and made product development a priority,” explains creator Jennifer St. John. “One of the bags I wanted to tackle was the classic backpack. Backpacks are so versatile – they can be your work bag, your fun bag, your going to school bag, your travel bag or your getting-through-the day bag. And all while being hands-free and feeling comfortable as the weight of the bag is distributed over both shoulders.”

She continues, “I wanted a modern, sleek look with all the practical bells-and-whistles. I worked with my team on brainstorming and researching the market and we came up with three directions to explore. After making paper versions for each, we zeroed in on one option and started to fine tune all the details.  As a team, we worked through the practical side of sewing the bag, while keeping the integrity of the design. A few leather prototypes later and voila! Our backpack was born.”

“And fingers crossed we’re all commuting to work, heading off to University or Colleges and going back to school in actual classrooms this fall. If you’re looking to do this with style in mind, our backpack is a great fit,” concludes St. John.

These spacious and stylish backpacks retail at $325 Canadian with 15% of profits going to their mental health initiative and free shipping within Canada and the USA.
