Takon, an Arizona Startup, Is Redefining Rest for Travelers and Sending Kids to Once-in-a-Lifetime Camps at the Same Time

Takon’s Pelakin HS Pillow is the perfect solution for people who are tired of being tired while traveling.

Takon, a travel startup located in Phoenix, AZ, has launched an innovative solution that aims to eliminate the discomfort of traveling. They created the Pelakin HS Pillow, which is the only travel pillow that supports both the head and lumbar, ensuring sleep and relaxation during travel are no longer compromised.

Frequent travelers have long dreaded the discomfort caused by extended periods of sitting up. From lengthy flights to road trips, upright sleep can be hard to get, making relaxing and enjoying travel difficult. As a result, Takon set out to develop the world’s first head support pillow. This innovative 2-in-1 travel pillow was created because “neck pillows don’t work, and the neck wasn’t the issue anyways. The head is what needs the most support,” according to creator Brett Buxton.

Developed by Buxton in Arizona, the Pelakin HS Pillow addresses the common pains that every traveler faces, especially when trying to sleep while sitting. Buxton spent more than three years creating what he believes is the perfect solution – a compact, lightweight pillow that comfortably supports the head and eliminates neck pain.

Why so much emphasis on the distinction between head support and neck pillows? This is so the Pelakin HS Pillow isn’t confused with the ineffective U-shaped neck pillows commonly seen in airports. Buxton says the two couldn’t be more different, and only one of them does what it’s supposed to do. He’s referring to the Pelakin HS Pillow.

He also pointed out the pillow is perfect for lumbar support. “We didn’t set out to make a pillow that worked for both the head and the lower back; it was just a happy side effect of our final design. I was flying with the prototype and was like, hey, this works great on my lower back when I’m not trying to sleep! So that was pretty cool,” said Buxton.

Buxton is visibly pleased with his creation, but he’s almost bubbly when asked about his Kids Takon Kamp (KTK) Foundation. The foundation receives $5 from every pillow Takon sells and sends great kids to once-in-a-lifetime camps throughout the United States. Buxton also said the goal with KTK is to give every kid, not only underprivileged kids or at-risk youth, the chance to go to an amazing camp and hopefully develop a lifelong passion like he did.

Buxton says he was lucky enough to have great childhood friends whose parents would let him come along on ski, fishing, golf, and hunting trips, and these are some of his best memories as a kid.

“If I would have had to apply to an underprivileged or at-risk foundation to experience some of these great experiences, I wouldn’t have qualified. I wasn’t poor; I wasn’t in a terrible neighborhood; I was just sort of one of those kids on the fringe that normally slips through the cracks and maybe doesn’t get some of the chances I think all kids deserve.”

He continues, “This might be controversial, but the great thing about starting your own foundation is you get to do it the way you want to. I hope there’s a little Brett Buxton somewhere out there in the Midwest right now who sees what we’re doing and says, ‘Man, I always dreamed about going to surf camp in California, but there’s no way my parents could afford that…maybe this is my shot.'”

With plans to open an application page where kids or anyone else on their behalf can apply, Takon is looking forward to sending as many awesome kids to camp as possible. Buxton hopes at least three kids will get the opportunity this year, “but if we can send a hundred, we’ll send a hundred!” Buxton said optimistically.
